Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus — The... →
I’ve been avoiding watching the now-infamous video, because I’ve heard the argument dozens of times and have done my best to defend my Church dozens of times. This article is a great defense of the truth of Christ and His Church.

The Good Samaritan
A man came down to Jericho from Zion’s sacred peak, As Adam down from Paradise, the world’s delights to seek. But just as Adam found himself deposed from heaven’s grace This poor man found his own undoing from his noble place. The thief and robber, Sin and Vice, their havoc on him wreak, No longer in the safety of Jerusalem’s embrace. They left the man half dead in sin, expiring by the road. A...

Prayer in Affliction
Keep me from bitterness. It is so easy To nurse sharp bitter thoughts each dull dark hour! Against self-pity, Man of Sorrows, defend me With Thy deep sweetness and Thy gentle power! And out of all this hurt of pain and heartbreak Help me to harvest a new sympathy For suffering humankind, a wiser pity For those who lift a heavier cross with Thee. — Violet Alleyn Story

Salve Regina! →
It feels so good to be back in a liturgical season during which the hymn to the Blessed Virgin Mary after Compline is my beloved Salve Regina. This hymn fed my soul through college, and continues to do so today. Here’s a loose translation I made of it last year. Enjoy!

Feast of St Aloysius
St Aloysius de Gonzaga, the Patron Saint of young men, and my dear friend of many years. Happy Feast Day! O blessed Aloysius, adorned with angelic virtues, I thy most unworthy suppliant recommend specially to thee the chastity of my soul and body, praying thee by thy angelic purity to plead for me with Jesus Christ the Immaculate Lamb, and His most Holy Mother, Virgin of virgins, that they...
